I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with 5 brothers (3 older…2 younger). As a little girl, I quickly learned the importance of cherishing my tomboy attitude and the purpose of serving…not only service to our country, but also how valuable community service is. An ancestor from every generation in my father and mother’s family has worn the uniform of our nation, beginning with the American Revolution. It was an easy decision when I raised my right hand to support and defense the constitution of our United States. Little did I realize, at the time, that I would spend the next 38 years of my life as a Soldier.

Because of my military service, I met my husband. I often say, “I chased him until he caught me!” Together, we have been on this journey of life for nearly 40 years. We raised 4 remarkable children, who all grew up to be productive and successful citizens. 2 of our adult daughters have allowed for me to be called the most treasured name ever – Grandma!
